Glamping – a fusion of glamor and camping – is that escape your family will definitely love. It’s that little break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. When you’re glamping, there’s no tent to pitch, no sleeping bag to unroll, no fire to build. Whether in a tent, yurt, airstream, hut, villa or tree house, glamping is a way to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury. And of course, Bali is catching on. Here’s 5 unbelievably amazing places to go glamping with your family in beautiful Bali!
1. The Elegant Safari Style Tents at Sandat Glamping Tents
Sandat Glamping has five tented lodges (plus three eco-cabins), each with its own pale-green pool, and shaded by palm trees. The tents are decorated in trad-contemporary Balinese style: natural wood, neutral tones, floaty muslin canopies and lie between a forest and a rice paddy and are located close to Ubud, a beautiful and welcoming city right in the center of this amazing island.
Furniture is distinctly un-camping-like, even by the standards of colonial explorers. Huge, proper beds (either round, inlaid wood, or handmade bamboo – each is different), Regency chairs, chandeliers and elaborately carved wardrobes, for example, and hardwood floors. There are also ceiling fans, air-con, mini fridges, iPod docks, and WiFi. Pretty much everything you’d hope to get in a decent hotel, then, except walls.
Take your pick between the five different thematic tents : the Penjor Brown, the Ylang-ylang Blu Oltremare, the Ogoh-ogoh Orange, Sarong Acqua Marina, or the Banten White. All amazingly gorgeous! Each tent accommodates 2 adults with additional beds for children available for a fee – but children under 6 can stay for free.
In the center of this glamping site lies a swimming pool, a necessity for those visiting Bali. There is a communal bar area decorated with a large lava rock native to Bali, too. There is a communal breakfast area and a seating area where guests can relax and play backgammon.
2. The Luxurious Tent Villa at Bali Dynasty Resort
The luxury Tent Villa is an exotic and glamorous one-bedroom retreat featuring a canvas tented roof and eco-friendly sustainable materials. It is set within a rooftop garden blessed with glorious views of the Indian Ocean, so you can view the amazing sunsets right outside your tent.
Measuring 44 square metres, the eco-friendly villa features a double tented roof, which provides a shade from the sun on the wraparound terrace. The safari-inspired interior embraces the eco concept with sustainable materials including a recycled teakwood floor, bamboo pillars and sleek, polished, bamboo doors. Under the draped canvas ceiling, the room is outfitted with wardrobes, canvas roller blinds, bamboo lamps, and a built-in desk characterised by double crisscross legs that follow the shape of the director’s chair with which it is paired.
Any comparisons with a campsite, however, end here with the provision of a luxurious king-size bed; individually controlled air-conditioning; a ceiling fan; mini-bar fridge; a wall-mounted, 42-inch, satellite-channel TV and DVD player; and a pantry with tea and coffee making facilities. A spacious dressing area, complete with a washbasin and a mirror, is positioned behind the bed’s high leather-padded headboard. Finally, a walk-in monsoon shower and a toilet – accessed by two separate doors – are situated within the open-air courtyard bathroom, which has a pebbled floor and is surrounded by high bamboo walls for absolute privacy.
3. The Spiritual Experience at Five Elements Puri Ahimsa
The Fivelements Puri Ahimsa located near Ubud is more than just a hotel. Here, each room is enveloped in the hypnotising whisperings of the sacred Ayung River as it carves its way through the valley. Each of the nine featured suites has an open veranda poised above the river’s swirling currents and a private bamboo enclosure housing a large open-air bathtub hewn from a stone boulder.
Customised lighting showcases the seven colours of the chakras, bringing mind, body and spirit in unison with nature. Other glamorous and modern amenities include air-conditioning, sound system with iPod dock, Wi-Fi Internet access, safety box, hairdryer and a generous array of toiletries.
The high grass-roofed ceilings, recycled timber floors, air-conditioning and flowing white curtains allow you to relax and find peace after a treatment, meal or meditation
4. The Uniquely Restored Rice Warehouses in Sandat Glamping Tents
Besides luxury tents, the Sandat Glamping Complex also features 3 lovingly restored rice warehouses (called lumbung in Bahasa Indonesia). These traditional and original eco-structures are made exclusively with local and ecological materials such as coconut wood or Bangkiray and alang-alang for the roof. They overlook the glamping complex from the highest terrace with a spectacular view over the surrounding forest and rice fields.
On the ground floor there is a living area furnished with antiques and traditional wooden sofas, light curtains that create a relaxing atmosphere, plus an open-air, yet concealed bathroom furnished with original furniture and mirrors, where papyrus plants create a continuity with the external vegetation.
The three Lumbungs are equipped with ceiling fan, mini fridge, i-pod docking station, internal phone service, wi-fi connection. With all the modern amenities, you can simply lay back and enjoy the beautiful surroundings – and that includes the gorgeous bathrooms!
5. The Bamboo Eco Cottage at Firefly Cottages
This bamboo cottage is a secluded eco retreat down a quiet foot path nestled in the rice fields and only a five minute walk to central Ubud. Open air basket weave bedroom with mini loft, modern elegant bathroom and outdoor living area make this a truly unique Bali experience.
There’s no air conditioning, but the bamboo walls allow the cool breeze to filter in to keep you comfortable while the mozzie net keeps the pesky mosquitoes away. So you can rest up, and wake up to this gorgeous morning view.
The location is pretty secluded, so you can really get up close and personal with mother nature! No need to worry, though. A complimentary cell phone is provided for you upon check-in so you can have access to the complete menu and room service. And of course, that all important wi-fi connection is included.
