Want to treat the kids to a really special afternoon? A lesson in the art of sipping tea with pinkies in the air and scoffing down scones with lashings of whipped cream and strawberry jam at Biku Bali is fun for kids and delicious for parents too.
Biku is a fantastically eclectic mix of Indonesian wooden joglo, an almost Mediterranean terrace and a classic English tearoom. The heavy wooden furniture and roof beams are softened with tropical flowers, dainty table settings, and muted tile flooring.
It’s a definite favorite for special occasions for locals, expats and tourists, and while we were there, there was everyone from ladies having a champagne tea, large families singing happy birthday and couples enjoying a intimate high tea together.
We were served tea first; hot for Lola from a gorgeous polka dot tea set and iced for Marlow in an equally gorgeous flowery cup. The tea was fruity and delicious and I had to have a little sip from the teeny tea cup.
When the food arrived I managed to keep the children away from it for about 2.5 seconds while I madly snapped photos, and then it was all over for the lovely display.
The fairy bread was the first to go as most colorful foods usually are. Lola also thought it made a stylish and tasty lipstick.
I, on the other hand, was all about the cream scones. Biku has the best scones in Bali in my opinion, and my mother bakes a mean scone so I am pretty picky when it comes to how my scones crumble. The bowl of thick whipped cream and sweet strawberry jam that are served with them is the real deal as well.
Although I wouldn’t expect them to eat the ‘real’ food first, kids do also get ham sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches and a delicious spinach quiche. Just nice to know they are getting some protein and veggies along with the sugar, whichever order they eat them in.
The staff at Biku were great with the kids and made sure they had coloring pens and pages to keep them occupied before their food came. I also noticed they have board games for kids if the parents are in for a long, lazy brunch or high tea.
Biku is perfect for birthdays for any age, baby showers, an anniversary or just for an afternoon treat. Kids are very well taken care of and absolutely not seen as a nuisance like they might be at other restaurants. We had a great time and the kiddos were crazily excited to have their own special high-tea set-up. Biku really is a Seminyak experience not to be missed.
Biku can get very busy so make sure to book before you go either online at www.bikubali.com or call them on +62 (0) 85100570888.
