No trip to Jimbaran is complete without a stop at Sundara restaurant at the Four Seasons. This restaurant/bar/beach club has become a social media sensation and one of the hottest spots for sundowners, brunch, romantic dinners and poolside selfies. It might not be immediately be an obvious family choice, but we went for a Sunday brunch with the kids (3 & 8 years old) in tow and found it incredibly welcoming.
Brunch starts at 11.30am, which is perfect when you’ve got kids like mine that are always starving a couple of hours after breakfast. We got a great table in the big open windows that look out to the swimming pool and beach. The staff brought activity books, which also have the kid’s menu in the back and crayons.
Sundara Restaurant offers brunch for Rp390,000++ per person, including a selection of appetizers and desserts, which are ‘free flow’ and you choose one main course per person. The choice was fantastic, from tempura salmon maki, grilled octopus, pork ribs, salads, steak and lots more. You also choose from 3 drinks packages; smooth, fun and bubbles (Rp120,000, 495,000 and 750,000 respectively). Smooth includes soft drinks and virgin cocktails, fun has a selection of cocktails and beer and bubbles of course is the champagne package, which also includes wines and house pour spirits.
We kept it low-key and family-friendly with the smooth package, but there was a table getting down with the bubbles and they were having a riot! Next time maybe…
The kids had a delicious spaghetti off the kids menu and also tried some of our dishes. My daughter is up for eating just about anything, but my son is the complete opposite so stuck to spaghetti and some chips.
None of us were really hungry for dessert but they were all so beautiful we had to try a few. The teeny portions are just enough for a taster after such a big brunch and they are also gorgeous to look at. We had red velvet cake, rum cheesecake and a couple of other amazing treats.
By the time we were finished with our brunch, the sun was starting to come over the top of the restaurant and it did get a little toasty sitting in the window. Thankfully, relief from the heat is just a few steps away in the 57-metre infinity pool. It really is an impressive sight and feels almost like being in a wonderful blue-themed landscape painting with the expanse of pool, ocean and sky stretching all around. I can only imagine how fantastic it is to watch the sun set from this pool.
So, all in all our trip to Sundara was a huge success. The kids were really well taken care of and happy to colour, watch the fish in the ponds and swim in the pool. We didn’t feel like we were out of place with the kids and by the time we left there were other families having brunch as well. In the evening it might be a bit different with a younger, more cocktail-centric crowd coming in, but Sunday brunches are definitely a family-friendly time at Sundara.
Book a Table at Sundara Restaurant for a Family Treat!
Don’t forget to book before you go as they can get very full, and if you want a poolside cabana, make sure you specify that as well. It’s a great treat for the family and definitely worth splashing out.
